Wildkatz was born from a love of gymnastics and a belief that the sport can be done differently.
Our story
Our founder and Head Coach, Kat, spent much of her childhood in elite gymnastics, joining the England squad and competing internationally. Gymnastics gave her incredible experiences, opportunities and a lifelong love for the sport — but growing up in a highly competitive environment also showed her first-hand the impact that pressure can have on young athletes.
When her own competitive gymnastics journey came to an end, Kat moved into coaching and began thinking about the kind of environment she would have wanted to grow up in.
One where children could learn amazing skills and challenge themselves, without their worth being measured by medals or how quickly they progressed. One where making a mistake was simply part of learning. One where every child, regardless of ability, could walk through the doors and feel like they belonged.
In 2022, that idea became Wildkatz Gymnastics.
What started small has grown into a community of more than 150 young gymnasts — and in 2026, Wildkatz took its biggest step yet, moving into our very own permanent home in Hucknall.
Although the club has grown, the reason we started hasn’t changed. We want children to experience everything that is wonderful about gymnastics — the confidence, friendships, resilience, excitement and that unbeatable feeling of finally achieving something you’ve worked so hard for — without losing the most important part: enjoying the journey.
That’s why, at Wildkatz, #TheJourneyIsTheReward.
How we coach
We’re proud to do things a little differently. We believe great coaching isn’t just about teaching children how to cartwheel, handstand or tumble — it’s about helping them build confidence, resilience and a genuine love for being active.
Our coaches encourage gymnasts to challenge themselves and work hard, but we don’t believe children need fear or unnecessary pressure to progress.
We celebrate the little wins just as much as the big ones. For one gymnast, success might be mastering a new skill. For another, it might be overcoming a fear, joining in independently for the first time, helping a teammate, or simply having the confidence to try. There is no single definition of success here.
We teach strong gymnastics fundamentals and encourage every child to reach their own potential, while creating an environment where mistakes are welcomed as part of learning and children feel safe to give things a go.
Because the skills children learn at Wildkatz go far beyond gymnastics. We want every child to leave our gym a little more confident, a little more resilient and, most importantly, happy to be exactly who they are.
Strong gymnasts. Happy children. Confident humans. That’s the Wildkatz way.
