Questions

Everything you might want to ask

And if it isn't here, just ask us — we'd rather answer than have you guessing.

Getting started

What happens in a first class?

One of our coaches will meet your child and show them where to go. Every class begins with circle time, where the children can tell us about their week — the good bits, the bad bits, or anything else they feel like sharing.

When somebody new joins us, we go around the circle and introduce ourselves so they can get to know their coaches and the other children. We’ll invite them to introduce themselves too, but there’s absolutely no pressure if they’re feeling shy.

We know walking into a new class can feel daunting. If your child would rather watch for a while, stay close to a coach or take their time joining in, that’s completely fine.

There’s no expectation for them to feel confident straight away. Their first session is simply about getting to know us, having some fun and hopefully leaving feeling a little more at home at Wildkatz.

What should my child wear?

There’s no need to buy anything special. Leggings, shorts, a T-shirt, sportswear or a leotard are all absolutely fine — anything comfortable and close-fitting that allows your child to move freely.

For safety, please avoid skirts, dresses, tights, jeans or clothing that is particularly loose or has anything that could catch on the equipment.

Long hair should be tied back and jewellery removed. Gymnasts train in bare feet, although grip socks can be worn where needed for medical reasons.

Can we try a class before committing?

Absolutely. A trial session is £8 and can be booked through ClassForKids.

It gives your child the chance to meet us, experience a full session and see how they feel before you decide whether Wildkatz is right for them.

There’s no pressure to sign up afterwards — although we’d obviously love to have them back.

Which class is right for my child?

Our recreational classes are grouped by school year rather than ability, so simply choose the group that matches your child’s current school year. You can filter by year group to see what’s on and when.

Every gymnast works at their own level within their class. There are no skills they need to have before joining, and they won’t be held back if they already have gymnastics experience.

For younger children, Lions & Cubs is our parent, baby and toddler free-play session, while Kittens is our structured preschool gymnastics class for children aged 2 to 4.

Still unsure? Get in touch and tell us your child’s age or school year — we’ll point you in the right direction.

During sessions

Can I stay and watch?

We don’t currently have a dedicated viewing area, so parents and carers don’t usually stay during recreational classes.

We also find that most children settle, focus and build independence much more easily once their grown-up has left.

There are exceptions, though. If your child is new, needs additional support or simply needs you nearby while they settle in, please talk to us. We’ll always work with you and your child rather than expecting them to be comfortable before they’re ready.

Lions & Cubs is different, as grown-ups take part alongside their little ones.

What if we miss a session?

Our monthly fees are calculated across 44 coaching weeks of the year and then spread evenly across 12 months. This means you pay the same amount each month, including during our planned closures and holidays.

We don’t automatically close for school half terms. We know how important routine and consistency can be for children, so wherever possible classes continue as normal. Instead, we take our planned breaks at different points throughout the year and always give families notice of these in advance.

If your child misses their usual session, please let us know. We can’t guarantee make-up sessions as this depends on availability, but you’re always welcome to ask and we’ll accommodate one where we can.

How do children move up a group?

Our recreational groups are based on school year, not gymnastics ability, so children usually move into their next group as they progress through school.

Their gymnastics progresses individually within that group. A child doesn’t need to achieve a certain skill or pass a test before moving up, and being more advanced doesn’t mean they need to move into an older age group.

We’ll let you know when it’s time for your child to move groups and give you the information you need for the change.

My child has additional needs — can they take part?

Absolutely. We want gymnastics to be accessible and enjoyable for as many children as possible.

Every child is different, so we’re always happy to talk about additional needs, sensory needs, communication preferences or anything else that may help your child feel safe, comfortable and included.

We’ll work with you to understand your child and make reasonable adjustments wherever we can. If you’re unsure whether a group environment will suit them, please get in touch before booking so we can talk it through together.

For some children, starting with a 1-to-1 session can also provide a gentler introduction to the gym before joining a group.

Finding us and paying

Where exactly are you, and where do I park?

We’re at Unit 3, Whyburn Business Park, Wigwam Lane, Hucknall, Nottingham, NG15 7SZ.

That’s our postal address, but it doesn’t always take you directly to our unit on Google Maps. For navigation, use NG15 7WE, or what3words ///stream.banks.hardly, which will bring you right to our door.

We have six designated parking spaces for Unit 3. If these are full, free parking is available on the main road, Baker Brook Close.

Please don’t park outside any of the other units on the business park — they’re working businesses and need to keep their own access and parking spaces available.

How does payment work?

Membership is monthly and rolling, so there’s no need to rebook your child’s place every term.

Prices start from £28 per month for one session a week, with sibling discounts and reduced rates available for children who train more than once a week. The full price list is on the Classes page.

If your child would like to train more frequently, please speak to Kat — we can discuss additional sessions and the fees available for more frequent training, or you can simply book your child a space through ClassForKids.

British Gymnastics membership is separate and is paid annually. This provides your child with their British Gymnastics membership and associated insurance.

All regular membership payments are managed through ClassForKids.

How do I cancel or take a break?

If you need to cancel your child’s membership, just let Kat know with two weeks’ notice. No forms, no fuss.

Our memberships are rolling, so we don’t currently offer the option to pause or hold a child’s space for a set period of time. If your child takes a break, their place will be released and may be offered to another gymnast.

You’re always very welcome to come back to Wildkatz, but we cannot guarantee that a space will be available straight away. If your child’s preferred class is full when they’re ready to return, they may need to wait for a space to become available or choose another suitable session.

Are your coaches checked and qualified?

Yes. Wildkatz is a British Gymnastics registered club (Club No. 92925).

Kat and Cordelia are qualified gymnastics coaches, first-aid trained, safeguarding qualified and DBS checked. Both have also completed British Gymnastics Best Practice in Flexibility Training.

Our Welfare Officer, Denise Grant, is DBS checked and safeguarding qualified, and has also completed British Gymnastics Best Practice in Flexibility Training. She provides an additional point of contact for any welfare or safeguarding concerns.

Our young volunteers work alongside and under the supervision of our qualified coaching team while developing their own knowledge and experience.

Our coaches and gymnasts are covered by the appropriate British Gymnastics insurance while taking part in registered club activities.
