Recreational Gymnastics

Learning, Laughing & Growing Together

Fun, structured gymnastics classes for children from Reception to 16 years.

Not at school yet? These are the ones for you

How our recreational gymnastics works

Our recreational classes are grouped by school year, not ability. There are no skills your child needs to have before joining, and no set list they’re expected to achieve by a certain age. Our coaches adapt skills and progressions to each gymnast, so beginners can learn the foundations while more experienced gymnasts continue to be challenged — all within the same class.

Katleap Awards

Every group works towards our in-house Katleap levels. We run them every 12 weeks, and each level earned comes with a medal and a certificate.

They’re there to help gymnasts see their own progress — not to move them up a group. Achieving a level doesn’t change which class your child is in, so nobody gets rushed on before they’re ready, and nobody gets left behind.

What a session looks like

  1. Circle time — a chance to share how the week’s been
  2. Warm-up together as a group
  3. Working around the apparatus, in smaller groups with a coach
  4. Cool down, and out to find their grown-up

Savannahs

Mixed ages • Reception to 16

A welcoming mixed-age class for gymnasts from Reception right through to age 16. It’s a great option for siblings who want to train together, with everyone learning, having fun and progressing at their own individual level.

Home School Gym

Daytime • Reception upwards

Designed for children who aren’t currently in the school system, Home School Gym offers the chance to enjoy gymnastics, learn new skills and spend time with others during the day. Children can of course join any of our regular classes too — this is simply an extra daytime option for families.

Recreational Tumble

Age 6 and over

A class focused specifically on floor-based tumbling skills, from rolls, handstands and cartwheels through to walkovers, handsprings, round-offs, flics, somersaults and more. Gymnasts work at their own individual level, building the strength, technique and confidence needed to progress safely. Come on a Monday, a Thursday, or both — whatever suits you.

We don’t automatically close for half terms. Routine matters to children, so wherever possible classes carry on as normal. We take our planned breaks at other points in the year and always give families notice in advance.

British Gymnastics membership is separate. Every gymnast needs it for insurance, paid once a year direct to British Gymnastics — £24 for recreational classes and £18 for preschool. Both rise slightly in October, to £26 and £19.

Why it’s the same every month. Fees are worked out across 44 weeks of the year, so half terms, holidays and closures are already built into the price. You pay the same each month rather than a different amount depending on how many weeks fall in it.

Membership rolls on until you tell us otherwise, and we ask for two weeks’ notice to cancel. More on cancelling.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should my child wear?

Anything comfortable and close-fitting they can move freely in — leggings, shorts, a T-shirt, sportswear or a leotard. Long hair tied back, jewellery off, bare feet.

Can I stay and watch?

There’s no viewing area at the moment, and most children settle and focus better once their grown-up has left. If your child needs you nearby while they settle in, talk to us — we’ll work with you.

Can we try before committing?

Yes. A trial is £8, booked through ClassForKids. Your child gets a full session to see how they feel, with no pressure to sign up afterwards.
